Founded in 1954, the Club is situated in Parc Stephens, Kidwelly. From 2015, the Club has taken on a private entity as a result of the pending community asset transfer from Carmarthenshire County Council to the Park Stephens Community Association. Thus, the upkeep of the bowling green and small changing facility has been wholly maintained by Club volunteers since this date.
Background to the project:
Upon transfer from the County Council, unfortunately, the Club has had to take on a changing facility (pavilion) which is in a sorry state and not fit for purpose, with no disabled access or segregated changing/toilet facilities for not only the disabled but also for male and females.
In the past four or five years, the club has spent a vast amount of time and money upgrading the bowling green including disabled access, drainage and a better bowling surface. Due to this investment and the financial burden of our private entity, the club currently does not have the funds in place develop the existing pavilion, despite having plans in place and having the necessary planning permission from the County Council.
The Club actively seeks sponsorship from local businesses and organisations on an annual basis to boost its funds. In return, it offers to display any advertisements around the bowling green and on the Club’s website. Without the generosity of its sponsors over the last decade, the Club would have been able to undertake essential bowling green renovations and made safety improvements to the pavilion.
In order to undertake the planned renovation to the pavilion, it is estimated that the Club will need to source approximately £60-70,000. While sponsorship and fundraising will certainly help the cause, alone it will unlikely be enough, therefore, all possible grant funding options will need to be pursued.
In the coming months, the club will continue planning for the project including costings, quotes and pursuing grant funding. More updates will be posted on this blog in due course updating the community that we serve of our progress. It is our hope that our facilities can be upgraded, securing the future of the game of bowls in Carmarthenshire and in particular the Town of Kidwelly where we can continue to serve our local community and find new and innovative ways to work with other local organisations in the area of Kidwelly and beyond.
